The current offer
Update, October 14, 2026 (UTC): Anthropic now says its current Claude Startups cohort is full and it is not accepting new applications. The page describes a program for early-stage founders with offers, tools and events, but does not state when applications closed. This October 7 article originally discussed a promotional package. We have removed its exact historical benefit amounts because the current page no longer reproduces those terms. The analysis below concerns how to evaluate a trial; it is not an invitation to apply to an open cohort.

Silver Owl view: buy an answer to a question
A credit allowance can make an experiment easier to start. Its most valuable output might be a decision to stop. Suppose a hypothetical startup wants to draft service reports from technicians' notes. It could spend the trial producing increasingly elaborate demonstrations, or it could define a question first: can a reviewer approve a useful report faster without overlooking a missing observation? The second approach gives the team a reason to collect representative examples, record review effort and decide what counts as failure before a polished demo makes everyone attached to the idea.
Record the work around the model
For that imaginary report service, the test budget should include the time spent preparing notes, correcting names and checking omitted details. Those minutes matter even when the API bill is temporarily covered. The team could compare an ordinary manual report with an assisted report on the same kind of case, using the person who receives the final document to judge usefulness. No universal productivity number is needed. A handful of carefully chosen difficult examples can reveal whether the product idea deserves another round of development or a narrower promise to customers.
Plan the day after the offer
Our recommendation is to write the continuation decision while the experiment is still small. Specify what evidence would justify paying ongoing costs, what artifacts the company needs to retain, and who can end the trial. Any estimate should use the team's observed workload rather than treating promotional credits as a permanent discount. An application for a program is also a separate action from deciding that its terms look relevant. A future trial offer could create room to learn, subject to its then-current terms and approval. The business value will come from turning that room into a clear finding about a real task, including the possibility that the task needs a different approach.
